• Nessebur (3km away), a small town included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. It’s a living monument of human history with ancient fortress walls, mediaeval churches, narrow cobblestone lanes and old wooden houses with strings of dried fish hanging from their roofs.
• Bourgas (25km away) is great for local markets for bargains, cafe’s, restaurants and perhaps most of all its friendly people. It really is recommended for anyone coming to Sunny Beach.
• You could also take one of the many two-day coach trips to the likes of Sofia, Rila Monastery, Plovdiv and Bachkovo.

Getting there from the UK

You can get a direct flight to Bourgas Airport from the UK. You can choose from Gatwick, Luton, Stansted, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Birmingham, East Midlands, Durham, Humberside, Newcastle, Manchester, Doncaster-Sheffield, Leeds-Bradford, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast. Flights take about three hours and typically cost about £200 return.

An airport bus shuttle service or train ride transfers you between Bourgas Airport and Sunny Beach. Alternatively you can of course rent your own car for the 25km ride - all the major rental firms operate from the airport and hire rates are very reasonable.
