Great outdoor summer holidays in Bulgaria
If you haven’t been to Bulgaria’s Black Sea Riviera for a summer holiday before you are in for something very special. It’s a great alternative to Spain for example, offering all the sun but so much more than a beach holiday.
Sunny Beach stretches along a beautiful semicircular bay facing east. To the north there are stunning mountains with contribute to the crisp, clean air, while to the south you’ll find the small peninsula on which the ancient town of Nessebur is located. Several other delightful towns and villages are nearby for when you want a break form the sand and sea.
The beach and sea are about as good as it gets. It’s the country’s longest, widest beach, a bearer of the prestigious BLUE FLAG prize for proven ecological advantages. At 8km long and 150m wide, it’s unlikely you will ever have trouble finding plenty of space to relax in. The sand itself is very fine, so especially suitable for children. And the sea is also ideal, with clean water and a comfortable, sandy bottom. You’ll also notice how calm the sea is, with no tides to affect your enjoyment of the water.
There’s much more to Sunny Beach than the beach itself:
Water sports. There’s everything a water sports fan could want, including a yachting club (where you can learn to sail or put your experience to good use), wind-surfing, water skiing, motor-launch cruises, para-sailing and hang-gliding. /p>
Other sports. You’ll find well-maintained and equipped tennis courts complete with tennis schools and tournaments, bowling, mini-golf, volleyball on the beach, archery and riding.
Nature. This is one of the few places along the coast where you can still see dramatic sand dunes, along with their rare plant varieties. There are also outstanding forests to walk in.
Children’s facilities. The climate and warm, shallow sea make this the ideal place for children. There are also 24-hour kindergartens with highly trained staff, fun games and competitions, children’s rides and pools, go-karts, inflatable castles, pony riding, kids' discos and pony riding. Most sports facilities also provide instructors experienced in helping children get the most from the sport. Of special note are the ‘Robinson Crusoe’ cruises - a 40-minute boat ride to a deserted bay beach with games on the beach and in the water throughout the day.
Dining. Eating by the Black Sea is a real treat, with more than 150 restaurants bringing you the taste of Bulgaria. Traditional recipes like shopska salad, kebapcheta and kavarma are thriving, as are the region’s famous sparkling white and red wine. Many of the restaurants have a very traditional feel, often with floor shows, while there are more modern restaurants, food snack bars and cafes to choose from.
Nightlife. A number of restaurants and clubs take you into the small hours, whether you are into dancing, casinos or live music.
Spas, mineral baths and swimming. It has it's own spa and swimming pools, while the valley of the Mesta River is well known for its mineral water springs, including the mineral baths in the villages of Banya and Dobrinishte.
